Welcome to the Bechtle UK Software Roundup page. A lot has happened over the last 30 days and this is my roundup of the key announcements to help keep you up to date on the wonderful world of Microsoft. Enjoy.

Get off to a good start with Windows 8!

Microsoft has done it again! Following the great success of Windows 7, Microsoft has taken one step further and shocked the world with Windows 8! The new operating system comes in a modern App-like design and offers all kinds of eye candy.

While Windows 8 is Microsoft’s first OS to be optimized for touch, it brings with it many other benefits for businesses including:

The new Windows Server 2012 helps you transform your IT operations to reduce costs and deliver a whole new level of business value.

Currently Windows Server has 3 main flavours:

Going forward with Windows Server 2012 we will have:

Std & DataCenter will have feature parity and the only difference will be the virtual server rights.

A preview of the next release of Office 365 has been made publicly available:

This gives us first sight of the next versions of Exchange, SharePoint, Lync & Office – and what a sight it is!

These are just some of the myriad new features – see for yourself in the Office 365 Preview.

This is a new addition to the Office 365 line up and I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about it. Microsoft Project is a great tool for managing projects through their lifetime and, with the next release of Office 365, it will be available in the Cloud; making it supremely easy to get your PPM (Project Portfolio Management) up and running. Being Cloud based will enable disparate team members to collaborate as easily as if they were together, leading to successful projects and reduced timeframes.

Microsoft’s phone OS has had a promising start in the consumer arena and the imminent arrival of the next edition, Windows Phone 8, brings many features needed to compete in the Enterprise space too. These include:

The current edition of Windows Phone has good integration with Office 365 and this will be even better in the next edition, allowing access to OWA and SharePoint libraries on the go – with top level fidelity for Office documents on the mobile device too.
